Online Buying - The Buying Cycle - Phase One
People go through a specific cycle when they want to make a purchase online.
It is called the Buying Cycle, and it has 3 phases:
![]() |
1. Browse 2. Compare/Shop 3. Buy |
At the Browse Phase - a person uses general - broad - generic keywords
and search terms.
Why ?
Because at this point the person is unclear about what he/she really
wants to buy…
……what product, brand, model, features, price, etc……
Simply put - the browse phase is mostly used for gathering information,
and from an affiliate point of view, in this phase it is very difficult to distinguish between real buyer and… tire kicker/freebie seeker.
Super affiliates don’t target “browse keywords” first.
Why ?
…because they are:
| too dangerous | too risky | too costly |
Basically, the intent of the searcher is unclear; does he/she want
to buy or not?
Facts about the Browse Phase:
- people just doing research online at this phase,
- doesn’t reveal the searcher’s intentions,
- even real potential buyers are still not ready to buy at this phase,
- browse phase’s keywords are expensive,
- search volumes are very high and untargeted.
Facts about the Browse Phase keywords:
Volume: most traffic,
Competition: most competitive,
Cost: most expensive,
Click Through Rate: lowest,
Conversion: lowest.
